An Experimental Psycho-Geographic Photography Workshop

This experiential workshop uses a psycho-geographic treasure hunt with metaphoric prompts as a mirror for inner exploration and intentional goal setting..
Photographers will navigate an urban space following cryptic clues, documenting their journey photographically and sketching and will retrieve the images they sent in when they registered for the workshop.
The real treasure? Exploring how we search externally, work collaboratively and is an introduction to how to seek ones own creative direction and inner purpose.

Half day intensive (6 hours)

10–15 photographers / artists (all skill levels welcome)

Hurlingham, Nairobi, Kenya

Workshop Intention

This workshop is on endings and the beginning warm up for :

  • A reflective overview on we approach creativity and where there is
    an opportunity to pivot in 2026,
  • Introduction and pre-registration for SANCTUM
  • Sanctum is an invitation to commit to a long term slow project container and meet each quarter for four seasonal Enchantment circles with a group exhibition at end of year of the work coceated.

Workshop Structure

Part I : Welcome & Introduction

  • Participants will receive a notebook & pencil, form groups, and go out looking for hidden images in the location.
  • With their notebooks and cameras, the artists can choose to shoot or sketch. Fujifilm cameras will be available for the exercise, and participants will be encouraged to photograph each other's portraits.

Part II : The Convening

The discussion will revolve around the story of each participant’s search as an individual or as part of a team.
 
Topics explored include :
  • How decisions were made (logic, intuition, or collaboration)
  • How uncertainty was handled (embrace it, fight it, freeze)
  • What was noticed in the clues
  • Who wanted to stay on track and who wanted to wander off

Reflection :

  • Are you a linear seeker or a wanderer?
  • Do you trust your intuition or demand clear directions?
  • Do you search alone or need collaboration?
  • What happens when you don't find what you expected.
