Kenya
Barbara Minishi is a Kenyan photographer, filmmaker, and multidisciplinary visual artist known for her intimate, poetic storytelling and transformational creative practice. Based in Nairobi, she works across photography, film, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) to explore themes of identity, belonging, and the human condition.
“The power and magic of visual storytelling has always been an intrinsic part of my life since childhood. Working with a camera gifted me the freedom, belonging, and service to be both channel and container, medium and message, as i connect, listen, explore, and share with people and places.”
Barbara’s creative practice is life practice – a sacred contract, an alchemical playground, and an evolving transformational learning portal of how she shows up in the world. Her work bridges the personal and the political, often rooted in Afrofuturism, cultural memory, and re-imagined narratives of Africa.
Her images have been featured in exhibitions and international publications, and she continues to collaborate across disciplines and mediums to create powerful, immersive experiences.
