Stephan Geyer

Stephan Geyer was born in Barcelona in 1981, later immigrating to Latin America with his family at a young age. Having grown up across three continents, he began photographing early with a Minolta film camera gifted by his father. Largely self-taught, Stephan developed a fascination with candid urban life – exploring alleys, slums, markets and streets to connect with what he calls “real culture”.

In parallel with his photographic journey, Stephan is a high-altitude alpinist, climbing peaks nearing the 7000 meters above sea level. Through these expeditions, he explores the limits of his own resilience while capturing remote parts of the world that remain hidden from most travelers. His work offers a contrast between life on the edge and the urban scenes found at lower altitudes.

Stephan’s visual style is marked by a vivid physical sensibility. He often focuses on the grittier parts of cities, hidden from the artificial gloss of modernity. His photography emphasizes contrast, observation, and realism – favoring honest documentation over artistic direction. For Stephan, photography is not about constructing narratives but about discovering them.
