Nino Bacalso

Nino is a Marine Engineer and a multi-award winning photographer based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates with a burning passion for skateboarding, architecture, documentary and street photography. He was born on 6th August 1984 in Cebu, Philippines. He won numerous photography awards internationally, naming a few: International Photography Awards 2016-2017-2019-2022, Tokyo International Foto Awards 2016-2017-2020-2022 and many more.

Nino started his passion for photography when he got his first DSLR camera back in 2009. Since then he has ventured into various formats, camera brands and lenses. His photographic inspiration comes from the interplay between humans and their surroundings.

His type of street photography seeks to isolate the human element and direct focus towards it, using the cityscape as a stark material contrast. He brings this documentary street photography style to some of his freelance part time photography work, where he functions as a documentary wedding photographer, skateboarding photographer and event photographer.

Using only available natural light, and using a candid approach, he seeks to document life as it happens without interfering or intervening. Photographing mostly using high contrast black and white, he seeks to eliminate colors as a distraction to the subject and scenery, trying to bring story and emotion to the viewer.
