Hierophany : Hauntings & Homecoming

Alliance française, Nairobi, Kenya

Some bodies of work take years to arrive because the work asks for something more than craft. Hierophany: Hauntings and Homecoming is a transmedia exhibition by Barbara Khaliyesa Minishi built from a decade of photographs, films, words and encounters that refused to stay quiet.

What is SYNTHESIS?

Using Hierophany as a living study, SYNTHESIS is an intergrated artist talk, exhibition walkthrough and mini masterclass on creative alchemy.

What You Will Take Away:

  • An introduction to Enchantment as creative method of research, Alchemy as framework & working from the inside out.
  • Embracing the shadow archetype; listening to creative energy you resist and how it can be your ally.
  • A framework for reading your own images across four layers: the literal, the emotional, the symbolic, and the mythic.
  • And an introduction on how to blueprint for your next body of work.

Why This Matters Now:

We are living in a season extraordinary image saturation, quick automative solutions and creative algorithmic noise.

Technically proficient work is everywhere and African image-making in particular is often asked to carry weight in very specific ways.

SYNTHESIS is a conversation about what it looks like to navigate that and an invitation to build a long term body of work that matters to you.

Who This Is For:

Have you made work that looked right but felt hollow?

SYNTHESIS is for photographers, visual artists, and anyone at any stage of their career who feel that their work is technically accomplished but not yet fully theirs. You do not need to have an existing project only the
willingness to look at what you carry & where you are in life.
