MASKANI

Home. Archive. Studio. Story.

It’s easy to think your next best work is somewhere you haven’t been and yet every photographer carries an origin story that starts at home.

Khaliyesa B. Minishi’s transmedia body of work, The 13th Path, was initiated in 2015 when prompted by a dream, she returned to her birth home with her Fujifilm XE1 camera which initiated a creative breakthrough that led to powerful career growth for her.

What is Maskani ?

MASKANI meaning “Home” is a photography masterclass in alignment with the 2026 global theme of World Photography Day.

What Photographers Will Learn:

  • How to connect to their home as an archive: objects, spaces, and inherited stories as raw material for image-making.
  • How to creatively utilise home as a working studio for testing and developing your photographic voice.
  • Techniques for approaching familiar spaces & breaking the habitual blindness that comes from knowing a place too well.

Why This Matters Now:

The most powerful photo stories are not always found by travelling further away but by looking closer, and staying longer, at what you already call home. MASKANI is an invitation to begin to build your unique legacy body of work that matters to you from the only source that is unique to you.

Who This Is For:

MASKANI is for photographers, visual artists at any stage of their career who is open to redefine their creative relationship to home. This Masterclass involves an assignment (Photography and writing ), a field trip and theory session that will unfold during the world photography week. Your in person attendance and participation for the 19th and 22nd August is mandatory.
