Bernard Kalu is a Nigerian documentary photographer based in Lagos, Nigeria, whose work explore the richness of everyday life through visual storytelling. Inspired by a passion to document real-life narratives, his photography reflects both environmental and social issues in his home country and beyond.
Since beginning his career in 2014, Bernard has used photography as a tool to raise awareness, challenge perceptions, and spark dialogue on civil rights, culture, and justice. His compelling i storytelling has earned him assignments with international outlets and organizations such as Bloomberg, The Lancet, IFAO, NBNL, and New York Times Portfolio Review.
He is a member of African Photojournalism Database (APJD) and a 2017 Revolving Art Incubator Fellow. Bernard is also the founder of @nineteenfifteen.ong, a platform dedicated to nurturing emerging African Photographers.
With a strong eye for light, moment, and composition, Bernard continues to produce impactful work that resonates globally while staying rooted in Nigerian culture and everyday realities.
